In November two of MMI’s Sports Medicine staff, Dr. Jeffrey Gilsdorf, Sports Medicine Physician & Orthopaedic Surgeon and Beverly Kornides, Physical Therapist trained over 300 Ski Patrol and Ski School staff at Liberty Mountain Ski Resort in Fairfield, PA on “Prevention and Treatment of Snow Sports Injuries.”; Their presentations were part of a full day of pre-season educational events held exclusively for Liberty Mountain staff and focused on prevention and treatment of skiing and snowboarding injuries.
Dr. Gilsdorf and Ms. Kornides reviewed most common injury sites for snow sports; knee, hand and wrist, and head and neck. Lack of conditioning, not using helmets, dehydration and concussion were identified as some of the most frequent causes of injury. Cathy Hoffman, Ski School Director for Liberty Mountain, stated that “the information was invaluable to the staff who are often the first responders to ski and snow board injuries.”
Dr. Gilsdorf is a Board Certified Sports Medicine physician that treats injured athletes. As Director of Rehabilitation and a Physical Therapist, Beverly Kornides supervises a Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy staff that provides expert care for athletes of all ages and sports.
